Overschotten van het hedendaagse nomadische bestaan krijgen in de kunst van Pascale Marthine Tayou een tweede kans. Zijn installaties kunnen worden omschreven als temporele materialisaties van ontmoetingen van de stadsmens waarin een nieuw gevoel van nood in kan worden  waargenomen.

Zijn vroege werk gaat over het verzamelen van dingen, de productie van een open veld vol ontmoetingen in een poging met 'de ander' contact te maken. Tayou gebruikt de strategie van 'détournement' om te illustreren dat cultuur zowel verzamelbaar als wegwerpbaar is. Zijn werk voorziet een forum om globale uitwisseling, dialoog, vertaling en onvertaalbaarheid te activeren.
